The ANAO produces a wide range of publications:

  • Audit Reports, which consists of both performance audit reports and reports relating to financial statement audits.
  • Assurance Activities, which consist of reviews undertaken generally in response to requests from stakeholders including Ministers and Parliamentary Committees. These reviews include providing reports to Ministers on Government Information, and to the Parliament on the Defence Materiel Organisation's annual Major Projects Report.
  • Better Practice Guides, which aim to assist agencies and other public sector bodies to improve their performance and management practices.
  • AUDITFocus, the ANAO's newsletter, which captures the lessons from our audit work that are likely to be of general interest and application.
  • Opinions, which provides a regular update of accounting, financial reporting and auditing issues.

    The objective of the audit was to assess the administrative effectiveness of FaHCSIA's management of the GBM initiative, and the extent to which the initiative has contributed to improvements in community engagement and government coordination in the Northern Territory.

    The audit focused on FaHCSIA's management of the GBM initiative under the NTER. The audit scope did not include additional functions assigned to some GBMs in the Northern Territory under the National Partnership Agreement on Remote Service Delivery (the National Partnership Agreement), or to Australian Government staff with similar roles and functions supporting the implementation of the National Partnership Agreement in Queensland and Western Australia.

  • Evaluation of Primary Health Care Funding to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services

    This is a report of the Former Office of Evaluation and Audit (Indigenous Programs) which was merged into the ANAO in December 2009.

     

    The overarching objective of the evaluation was to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of:

    • the Department's management of PHCF program as funded to Aboriginal and
      Torres Strait Islander Health Services (ATSIHSs);
    • program service delivery by ATSIHSs in improving access to effective primary
      health care services for Indigenous Australians; and
    • the Department's processes for assessing how PHCF influences health
      outcomes for Indigenous Australians.

  • National Aboriginal Health Strategy - Delivery of Housing and Infrastructure to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities

    The audit reviewed the National Aboriginal Health Strategy (NAHS) component of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission's (ATSIC) Community Housing Infrastructure Program (CHIP). A major NAHS objective is to improve environmental health in indigenous communities through the construction and housing and the provision of water, sewerage and related systems. The objective of the performance audit was to form an opinion on ATSIC's management of the National Aboriginal Health Strategy program in providing housing and related infrastructure to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and to identify areas where program administration could be improved.

  • Performance Audit of the Northern Territory Land Councils

    This is a report of the Former Office of Evaluation and Audit (Indigenous Programs) which was merged into the ANAO in December 2009.

     

    This report was made available to the Standing Committee on Finance and Public Administration as part of an answer to a question on notice, Additional Budget Estimates Hearing – February 2009.
    The objective of the audit was to assess the efficiency, effectiveness and economy of the management and administration of the Land Councils, including mechanisms for measuring the achievement of outcomes and benchmarking of performance.

  • Evaluation of the Effectiveness of ATSIC Programs in Meeting the Needs of Aboriginal Women and Torres Strait Islander Women

    This is a report of the Former Office of Evaluation and Audit (Indigenous Programs) which was merged into the ANAO in December 2009.

     

    The objective of the evaluation was to identify the impact of ATSIC programs and services on Indigenous women throughout Australia. Nine sample programs were selected for analysis. These were:

    Substance Abuse
    Law and Justice
    Community Housing
    Community and Youth Support
    Land Acquisition
    Community Development Employment Project
    Community Employment Initiatives Scheme.
