Working at the ANAO

RESPECT, INTEGRITY, EXCELLENCE - Each of these actually makes for a sound business model to achieve our objectives. So they also define the relationship we have with our people.

We need our people to actively apply their excellence in technical and professional practice to successfully carry out the important role of the Audit Office. But to do this, we need to respect the abilities and capabilities of our people and most importantly, trust in their integrity to operate with courage and tact in challenging situations.

As a professional services organisation, we’ve recognised the importance of our people. So, in addition to organisational policies like generous remuneration and conditions of employment (including five weeks annual leave); collectively, we’ve identified the type of organisation we aspire to be: the sort of accepted behaviours our people think are right:

Lead by example – in both technical skills and interactions with the people around you.

Enjoy our work – because we chose our professions for a reason and it’s important to gain satisfaction from the work our profession provides.

Be mutually supportive – because although we are a group of highly qualified and experienced professionals, we are all often challenged by the audits we work on.

Be innovative and creative – to make sure we are pushing the boundaries of our own professional development and continually applying skills in the best way to achieve objectives.

Communicate openly and be receptive – because although financial and performance audits focus on client systems and processes, those systems and processes are developed, maintained and potentially improved by the people we deal with every day.

Celebrate and take pride in achievements – because the work we do is important and we should take time to recognise the real value in what we do as individuals and teams.

Not every hour in every day at the ANAO is like this. But we do want more people who would rather work in a place that tries to be like this, to help make more days like this.
