This audit would examine the effectiveness of the Australian Border Force’s (ABF’s) controls to identify, assess and mitigate integrity and corruption risks in relation to Australia’s international airports.
In 2012 and 2013, a joint investigation by the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity and the Australian Federal Police led to a number of customs officers at Sydney Airport being arrested, charged and imprisoned for involvement in the importation of drugs. The audit would assess the work undertaken by the department to identify, assess and mitigate integrity and corruption risks.
