This audit would examine the effectiveness of the Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business’ design and monitoring of the Youth Jobs PaTH (Prepare, Trial and Hire) program.

The PaTH program is the Australian Government’s key employment program for young job-seekers, and provides them with skills training to better understand workplace expectations and four to 12 week unpaid internships for an additional $200 a fortnight added to their income support payment. Employers are provided with $1000 per internship, and can receive a wage subsidy of up to $10,000 for employing an eligible jobseeker aged 15–24 years.

The program was announced with a budget of $751 million over four years and commenced in early 2017.
