I joined the ANAO as an intern, while I completed my Bachelor of Engineering and Honours studies at the ANU. I interned for two years before being accepted into the graduate program, where I’m now working as a data analyst in the Systems Assurance and Data Analytics group.
Studying engineering and then pursuing a career in audit — it’s not the most obvious of career choices for my degree! But reflecting on my experiences working at the ANAO, I’ve never felt I had to change to become an auditor — the organisation accommodates such a variety of educational, work and cultural backgrounds.
There’s so much variety of work at the ANAO — with oversight of over a hundred different Commonwealth agencies across nineteen portfolios of work. Graduates here have the opportunity to engage in many different types of work that other graduates don’t get the chance to see. In addition to the variety of work here, the organisation’s role as an independent advisor to Parliament means you are playing a pivotal role in maintaining the accountability of the public sector. As an ANAO auditor, you can influence how public policy is administered and, consequently, how Australians benefit from it.
