This audit would assess the efficiency and effectiveness of Comcare’s administration of its workers’ compensation scheme for Australian Public Service agencies.
As the national authority for work health and safety and workers’ compensation among other functions, Comcare is responsible for providing workers’ compensation insurance and claims management to the majority of Australian Government agencies. During 2020–21, Comcare provided workers’ compensation coverage to approximately 183,537 Australian Government employees and paid approximately $186 million in workers compensation claim expenses. The efficient and effective administration of the workers’ compensation premium scheme is important to ensure optimal return-to-health and return-to-work outcomes for injured employees, and financial sustainability for agencies and the Australian Government.
