The objective of the audit was to assess the effectiveness of DEWR's administration of the JSKA in ensuring its optimal usage in achieving job seeker outcomes. The ANAO examined the following aspects of the JSKA: guidance provided to Job Network Members on its operation; identification and assessment of contract risks; management of contract risks and Job Network Member performance; claims and payments; encouraging economy; and performance information.
This audit examined DIMIA's administration of onshore compliance under rhe Migration Act 1958 (Cth) as amended (the Act). In particular, it focused on whether DIMIA had implemented appropriate onshore compliance strategies in regard to people who enter Australia lawfully but whose presence becomes unlawful through: - the expiry of their visa; or - a breach of visa conditions and cancellation of their visa.
The objective of this audit was to examine Australia's preparedness to respond to a human influenza pandemic and an outbreak of avian influenza in domestic poultry. The audit assessed:
- the whole of government arrangements for an influenza pandemic;
- action taken by DAFF to implement the recommendations from Exercise Eleusis, which tested the response arrangements for avian influenza;
- DoHA's planning for, and execution of, Exercise Cumpston, which tested the preparedness and response to an influenza pandemic; and
- the establishment, management and deployment arrangements of the National Medical Stockpile.
The objective of the audit was to assess if DBCDE had effectively managed the ABG program, and the extent to which the program was achieving its stated objectives. The audit examined DBCDE's activities supporting the planning, implementation, monitoring and performance reporting for the ABG program from its commencement in April 2007 to June 2010.
The objective of this audit was to examine the effectiveness of Medicare Australia's administration of the PBS. In assessing the objective, the audit considered three key areas:
- Medicare Australia's relationship with the PBS policy agency (DoHA) and service delivery policy agency (Department of Human Services (DHS));
- the management arrangements and processes underpinning Medicare Australia's delivery of the PBS (including the means by which Medicare Australia gains assurance over the integrity of the PBS); and
- how Medicare Australia undertakes its three main responsibilities relating to the delivery of the PBS, namely: approving pharmacies; approving authority prescriptions; and processing PBS claims.
The objective of this audit was to assess how effectively FaHCSIA and DEEWR have undertaken their roles and responsibilities for specialist disability employment services under the current (third) CSTDA.
The audit objective was to assess whether agreements between Australian Government (Commonwealth) agencies reflect sound administrative practices. To meet this objective, the audit reviewed current government policy and a range of better practice guidelines, conducted interviews with agencies and examined cross-agency agreements, to formulate suitable audit criteria and subsequently develop better practice principles.
The audit objective was to assess the effectiveness of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs management of complaints and other feedback to support service delivery. The audit criteria were that DVA has:
- a well-designed framework for managing complaints and other feedback;
- effective processes and practices to manage complaints; and
- appropriately analysed complaints to inform service delivery.
On 3 February 2010, Senator Christine Milne wrote to the Auditor General raising concerns about DEWHA's administration of the Green Loans program and requesting a performance audit of the program. Issues raised included: uncapped assessor numbers; problems with the delivery of the program; the quality of assessor training and assessments provided to households; the lack of an audit facility within the program; and equitable access to work under the program.
In light of Senator Milne's request and other concerns in relation to the administration of the program, the Auditor-General agreed on 25 February 2010 to conduct a performance audit of the program. The objective of the audit was to examine key aspects of the establishment and administration of the Green Loans program by DEWHA and the program's transition to DCCEE. Particular emphasis was given to the program's three main elements:
- training, registration and contracting of assessors;
- scheduling, conduct, and reporting of home sustainability assessments, and the associated payments to assessors; and
- provision of green loans to householders, and the associated payments to participating financial institutions.
The audit also examined the extent to which steps had been taken by DEWHA and DCCEE to assess whether the Green Loans program was achieving its objectives.
The objective of this audit was to assess and report on the progress being made by Government agencies in achieving better practice in green office procurement and sustainable office management. The scope of the audit included agencies incorporated under the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997 as well as a sample of bodies incorporated under the Commonwealth Authorities and Companies Act 1997. Sixty-three agencies were included in an audit survey. Detailed validation was carried out in nine of these agencies.

The aim of the campaign is to contribute to a reduction in the uptake of methamphetamines and other illicit drugs among young Australians, by raising awareness of the harms associated with drug use and by encouraging and supporting decisions not to use. It is also intended to encourage young people using methamphetamines to reconsider their use and direct them to relevant support, counselling and treatment services.
The campaign is a community awareness campaign designed to raise awareness of Australia's quarantine laws and of the particular risks of bringing foreign items into Australia.
The campaign's objective is to inform Centrelink customers who are in or commence a same sex relationship about changes to their entitlements and obligations as a result of the Same Sex Relationships (Equal Treatment in Commonwealth Laws - General Law Reform) Act 2008.
The purpose of the campaign is to:
- raise traveller awareness of SmartGate (an automated passenger processing system utilising ePassports);
- encourage travellers to choose to use SmartGate;
- increase current usage; and
- guide travellers how to use it before they arrive at the Customs border.
The use of SmartGate is voluntary as eligible travellers have the option of being processed manually by a Customs Officer.
First Home Saver Accounts are a new initiative to assist eligible Australians to save for their first home through a combination of government contributions and low taxes, in superannuation style savings accounts with account providers. The campaign will set the context for the new initiative and raise awareness. The campaign elements are to articulate the eligibility criteria, individual obligations, entitlements and accessibility rules, as well as explain the respective roles and responsibilities of account providers and government administrators and regulators.

The campaign aims to promote the role of travel advisories and encourage Australians to use them as a routine part of overseas travel preparation. It seeks to reduce the number of Australians encountering difficulties overseas, and by leading more Australians to use safe travel tools, the campaign aims to improve the Government's ability to be able to communicate with and assist Australians in the event of a consular emergency.
The ABHI campaign is an information campaign, largely in cooperation with other states (excl Victoria) which promotes improved public health and reduced incidence of chronic disease. The campaign aims to update public perceptions on lifestyle choices and risk factors leading to obesity and resultant disease. It is anticipated that people will take positive action to be more active and modify their diet, leading to a reduction in instances of diseases.
The objective of the Liquids Aerosols and Gels (LAGS) Trials is to assess the capability of various screening technologies to detect explosives in LAGs, with the ultimate objective of providing information to the Australian Government on the effectiveness and efficiency of the screening technology (in aviation security). The proposed public awareness strategy aims to raise awareness of the Trials amongst the travelling public, encourage their participation, and inform them of their rights and obligations during the Trials.
