The Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 (PID Act) came into effect on 15 January 2014. The purpose of the Public Interest Disclosure Scheme is to provide an avenue for public officials to report suspected wrong doing in the Australian public sector.
The scheme provides for employees (including former employees) of the ANAO and contracted service providers to the ANAO, to make a public interest disclosure of suspected wrongdoing relating to any public official, and provides for any public officials and former public officials to make a public interest disclosure of suspected wrongdoing relating to ANAO activities or ANAO officials, either anonymously or openly, in writing or verbally, to an authorised officer in the ANAO. The ANAO has an obligation to assess the disclosure and decide whether to investigate the matter or not.
If you are considering making a disclosure that relates to a current ANAO audit, seek assistance from an authorised officer in the first instance by sending an email to pid@anao.gov.au with the subject 'Advice regarding [audit name]'. An authorised officer can assist you to assess whether your matter may be an audit contribution (for example, you believe that an audit team has been provided with misleading information) and can explain the confidentiality provisions for information gathered as part of an ANAO audit.

The objective of the audit was to examine the Department of Defence’s (Defence's) implementation of agreed recommendations made in Auditor-General Report No. 38 of 2017–18 Mitigating Insider Threats through Personnel Security and the related report provided to ministers under section 37(5) of the Auditor-General Act 1997, and by the Parliament’s Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit (JCPAA) in Report 479 of 2019 Australian Government Security Arrangements.

This is a report of an audit by the ANAO of the Australian Taxation Office's Income Matching System (IMS). The IMS is a computer-based system which identifies discrepancies between information in tax returns and external data. The main income types covered are dividends, interest, wages and salaries, pensions and benefits and prescribed payments. It also generates unmatched data and cases where assessments have not yet been issued.
The audit objective was to assess the effectiveness of the selected entities:
- management of the delivery of projects awarded funding under four programmes where ANAO has previously audited the application assessment and selection processes; and
- development and implementation of evaluation strategies for each of those programmes.

The Integrity Advisor is responsible for increasing integrity awareness across the organisation and for reporting annually to the ANAO Executive Board of Management on actions taken under the Framework. The Auditor-General publishes the ANAO Integrity Framework and annual Integrity Report to provide increased transparency of the measures we undertake to maintain a high-integrity culture in the ANAO.

The Australian National Audit Office Enterprise Agreement 2024–2027 was approved by the Fair Work Commission (FWC) on 22 March 2024 and operates from 29 March 2024. The agreement will nominally expire on 28 February 2027. The signatories page of this agreement is available on the FWC website.
